The project
Our client, a major power solutions provider, has secured an order from a US-based power generation firm for the construction of a combined cycle power plant in the Netherlands.
Following the start of commercial operation scheduled for mid-2010, our client will assume responsibility for plant services over a period of 12 years. The order including a long-term service agreement is worth a total of over E320 million.
With an installed capacity of approximately 430MW, the plant will be fired exclusively with natural gas and will supply eco-friendly power to more than a million Dutch households. The power plant will be built on an industrial and port facility, approximately three kilometres south of Rotterdam. The scope of supply encompasses an SGT5-4000F gas turbine, a water-cooled generator, a steam turbine, and the entire electrical and I&C equipment.
The Role
• Contract interpretation and review, highlight and advise Project Management of all possible company liabilities, notice periods, onerous or conflicting contract provisions, condition precedents etc.
• Defend incoming claims and prepare outgoing claims, review and prepare
contractual correspondence and support project management in negotiation
meetings.
• Preparation of major construction claims up to for arbitration.
The assignment comprises an induction week at our client’s head offices in Offenbach / Germany and an occupation on site in Rotterdam / Netherlands.

• End of assignment: 31.12.2009
Candidate Profile
• A highly qualified Contract Manager experienced in the fields of Contract Management/Claim Management.
• Be a professionally skilled: Mechanical, Heavy Civils or Quantity Surveying background with appropriate qualifications
• Good understanding of contract law
• Fluent in English both written and spoken
• Knowledge of additional languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian) welcome but not essential
• Demonstrate a flexible approach and with excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentational skills
Required Experience
• At least 8 years full time experience in a similar sole contract management position
• Experience in power generation or mechanical/piping major EPC and
subcontracts
